Busy with responsibilities, excitedly pursuing goals, and juggling it all. An active and stressful, happy and fulfilling— beautiful 30s. In this hectic time, looking as young as possible; and as long as possible can be challenging. Look after yourself now; you’ll be glad you took this advice!

As a Dermatologist, I’ve seen my fair share of people in their mature age with an increased risk of cancerous skin lesions and skin cancer. The thirties are a time for using both anti-aging preventative strategies and beginning with treatments and procedures to reverse and treat skin aging that is starting to occur.

Of course, we all wish there was one magic Elixir to do it all. But the fact that you can’t stop aging pushes us to influence the rate and extent of our aging skin.

In this blog, let’s review the 30 before 30 anti-aging, preventative efforts to take into the routine;

Top 30 Things to Do to Slow Down Skin Aging

1. Make using Sunscreen a habit! And Don’t Tan on Purpose

Each tan ages your skin from the sun to any other indoor tanning equipment. If you love your bronze and olives, use self-tanners and exfoliate beforehand, preferably with an oil-free cleanser with glycolic or salicylic acid. Remove any residue before proceeding to maximize your self-tanning results. Oils interfere with the binding of DHA(an ingredient in self-tanners that binds with the top layer of your skin)

2. Always keep Retinoids on the list

Retinoids, like retinol, help to strengthen the protective function of the outer layer of skin, control water loss, and protect collagen. Using retinoids reduces fine lines, wrinkles, and even dark sunspots. For skincare products, visit; www.gorgeousrx.com

3. Use Active skincare to boost Collagen production and control pigment production

Types of Skin Care Ingredients

Preventative ingredients—antioxidants, vitamins, some peptides, plant stem cells
Therapeutic ingredients—retinol, alpha-hydroxy acids, vitamin C, some peptides, growth factors
Specialty ingredients—salicylic acid, benzoyl peroxide, thyme, and tea tree oil for acne; or arbutin, soy, licorice, and bearberry for hyperpigmentation

4. Restrict The Use Of Cigarettes And Alcohol To Prevent Aging

Did you know our smoking and drinking habits seriously impact our wrinkles? They also increase your risk of developing skin cancer.

5. Treat Sun Damaged and Pigmented skin

Treat sun damage and pigment with chemical peels

Chemical peels, performed by a licensed aesthetician or a Dermatologist, help to remove the dull and damaged surface layer, reducing excess pigmentation, increasing cell turnover, boosting collagen, smoothing fine lines, and restoring glowing and even complexion.

Treat sun damage and pigment with Photorejuvenation.

Our skin shows signs of sun damage as early as the late 20s. Photorejuvenation is the preferred treatment if chemical peels are not an option for an individual. When the pigment is more deeply rooted, or the person experiences broken blood vessels and redness, Photorejuvenation helps treat both.

6. Prevent your Expression Lines from settling with Botox

Some of us are more expressive than others, if not with words, then just our facial expressions. Our laugh lines and frowns start showing on our faces permanently with age. The best treatment for frown lines, crow’s feet, and forehead lines is Botox, a medication injected with a tiny needle to relax the muscles that cause the lines. The treatment can be repeated as necessary. If Botox treatments are given before the lines are etched, it can prevent the etching from developing.

7. Restore Volume and Fill Wrinkles with Fillers

With aging, we lose fat and volume in our faces and gain it everywhere else. Women start this process earlier than men.

Using dermal and subcutaneous fillers can make lips plump, restore volume to deflated cheeks, and fill the hollowing under the eyes and lines around the mouth.

Two kinds of fillers are used to treat these problems—localized and generalized. Consult your doctor to know which option is for you.

The bright side is fillers tend to boost natural collagen production, and some results become permanent after some time.

8. Prevent Acne and Treat Scarring immediately

As the skin loses elasticity in the thirties, acne scarring becomes more prominent as the scars are not stretched flat. The more they sink in, the more noticeable they become.

Acne in the thirties can and should be treated by your dermatologist. Severe acne scarring is best treated with fractional laser resurfacing.

9. Eat a Low-Glycemic Diet to Reduce Collagen Breakdown

A healthy diet and a healthy gut keep us young inside and out. Include fruits, vegetables, and whole grains, and avoid processed fats and sugars as best as possible. These lead to skin inflammation, acne, breakouts, and wrinkles. Add antioxidant-rich foods and healthy fats to your routine to support healthy skin.

10. Control Weight Fluctuations to Reduce Sagging

It is understandable; you are not the only one undergoing weight fluctuations. With pregnancy-related weight gain, food choices dictated by children, and a busy household, there is little time to exercise and work on better options. This constant tug-of-war between gaining and losing weight can take its toll on the skin’s elasticity, leaving behind stretch marks, loose skin, and jowls. Finding a balance may be the only way to reduce sagging.

11. Control Stress And Get Some Sleep

Your eyes speak volumes, and so does the skin around them. Getting enough sleep is essential for keeping your skin healthy, a minimum of 8 hours at this point. A night of good sleep helps fight wrinkles and allows the skin to heal and regenerate. Establish a regular sleep schedule and notice the difference.

12. Retinoids Always Make The List, And For A Good Reason

Retinoids, like retinol, can help to strengthen the protective function of the epidermis (outermost layer of skin) and its cells, limit water loss, and protect collagen. This protein offers structural support to the skin. Retinoids ease fine lines, wrinkles, and even darker sunspots.

13. Prevent Damage With Eye Creams

My favorite is The Ageless Eyes during the day paired with Retinol Eye cream at night. Applied daily, a good eye cream can do wonders for the puffiness and darkening around the eyes and treat fine lines and wrinkles.

14. Hydrate, Hydrate, Hydrate

Water maintains the elasticity and plumpness that makes skin glow. Your skin can develop dry patches and chapped lips if you don’t drink enough fluids. Look for ingredients like Ceramides, Peptides, or Hyaluronic Acid in your moisturizer to maintain a healthy skin barrier and an overall replenishment.

15. Use Topical Peels (After Consulting With An Expert)

With time, our skin’s ability to naturally renew cells reduces.

Using a topical peel can help to exfoliate or remove dead skin cells from the outer layer of your skin. Avoid using retinol or Benzoyl Peroxide after a peel. Be sure to gently apply the product using small, circular motions and rinse with lukewarm (not hot) water, according to the AAD.

16. Give Exercising Some Serious Thought

Vigorous exercise (referring to the intensity, not time duration)a couple of times a week may help protect your skin. Moderate exercise may improve overall blood circulation and boost the immune system, giving the skin a youthful appearance.

17. Cut Out Harsh Cleansers

Be gentle to your skin. Frequent scrubbing may give us a squeaky clean feeling but can also irritate your skin. Irritated skin ages quickly. Use a hydrating or a gel-based cleanser that helps remove pollution, makeup, and other substances without stripping your skin of its natural essence.

18. Consider Microdermabrasion To Improve Your Complexion

Microdermabrasion is a cosmetic procedure that involves the use of tiny crystals to exfoliate the skin. It instantly improves your complexion by making wrinkles less visible, heals acne scars, and removes blackheads. Consult DERMATOLOGY ASSOCIATES to determine if microdermabrasion is the right treatment for you and the number of sessions you may need.

19. Incorporate Vitamin E Into Your Diet

Vitamin E is available in nuts and seeds but can also be consumed as supplements and oil. Why Vitamin E? Vitamin E is a fat-soluble, essential nutrient with anti-inflammatory properties. Vitamin E helps support the immune system, cell function, and skin health. It is also an antioxidant.

20. Protect Your Skin With Vitamin C

Vitamin C is a nutrient that is essential for healthy skin. It helps protect the skin from sun damage, reduces inflammation, and promotes collagen production. You can get vitamin C from food sources such as citrus fruits, bell peppers, and broccoli. You can also supplement if you need more from your diet.

21. Consider Collagen Supplements To Reduce Signs Of Aging

Talk to your dermatologist about which collagen supplement is best for you. There are many variants out there, ranging from tablets to collagen powders. Increase your Collagen levels to reduce the chances of wrinkles and sagging skin.

22. If It Stings Or Burns, Stop Using It!

The burning/ stinging feeling you experience indicates your skin is irritated. Irritated skin looks older.

23. Moisturize Daily

Moisturizers help our skin retain water, giving it a youthful appearance.

24. Get Facials Done Routinely

Facials are a great way to keep your skin looking young and healthy. At Dermatology Associates, we offer customized facials to address skin problems like acne, wrinkles, sun spots, redness, and melasma. Schedule a facial once every 30 days or at least every three to six months.

25. Start Your Journey To Smooth, Flawless Skin With Lasers

Laser treatment is an excellent option to kickstart the process of skin renewal. Lasers effectively target wrinkles, age spots, and other blemishes from the skin, including unwanted freckles, pink or brown scars, age spots, and redness. Schedule an appointment to see which laser treatment works for you.

26. Cleanse at least twice a day and after perspiration

Perspiration, especially when your hair or skin is covered, may irritate the skin. Wash your skin as soon as possible to prevent the pores from clogging with oil and sweat and reduce the chances of inflammation. Re-apply sunscreen after sweating.

27. Look Into Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) Therapy

Platelet-rich plasma therapy is a relatively new treatment involving using platelets from your blood to rejuvenate the skin. The platelets injected into the skin help stimulate collagen production and reduce the appearance of wrinkles.

28. Use A Toner Suitable To Your Skin Type

A toner after your daily cleanse helps remove excess dirt and oil and balance your skin. Choose an option that helps reduce the appearance of pores if you have oily or combination skin. Look for a toner with antioxidants to help protect your skin from damage.

29. Take Special Care During Winters

In winter, our skin becomes more prone to drying and cracking. Especially when the heaters are on, consider using a humidifier to help maintain moisture in the surroundings and your skin. Moisturize with consistency and stay hydrated.
